Making learning fun with STEAM

On Tuesday, December 3rd, dr. Kristof Fenyvesi hosted a STEAM workshop for 33 teachers from Marijampolė, Lithuania and teachers from Ammattiopisto Tavastia in Hämeenlinna. This workshop aimed to introduce Finnish educational practices and inspire innovative teaching methods.

A Global Connection

The initiative, organized by Arto Ruhala and Tiina Alhainen from Ammattiopisto Tavastia, and Lukas Benevičius from Lithuania, brought together educators from both countries. By sharing knowledge and experiences, the workshop fostered a global dialogue on education in a playful way.

Get Creative with STEAM

STEAM, an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics, emphasizes the interdisciplinary nature of learning. Dr. Fenyvesi captivated the audience with engaging activities that blended art and science. The group explored the geometric structures of a football ball and the beauty of natural igloo forms, participants discovered the fun and practical applications of mathematics, chemistry and physics while using logical connections.

A Hands-On Approach

The workshop encouraged active learning through hands-on projects as STEAM implies. Teachers built robots, experimented with materials, and collaborated with their peers. This experiential approach not only deepened their understanding of STEAM concepts but also inspired them to bring innovative teaching methods back to their classrooms.

We thank Ammattiopisto Tavastia for the invitation and look forward to future collaborations that will continue to shape the future of education.
