Experience Workshop’s teacher training course “Essentials of Finnish Education” welcomed Hungarian and Slovakian teachers in May.

About the course
The course presented the Finnish education system using a twin-track approach. On one track, participants examined the core elements that have made the Finnish system a known reference internationally. This included principles, structures, and the reasons behind learning outcomes. On the other track, participants focused on what they could take back to their own classrooms. Jukka made a clear distinction between understanding the system as a whole and selecting practical methods, tools, and approaches for everyday teaching.

Participants did not just learn what Finnish teachers do. They worked on identifying which parts of the Finnish approach were relevant to their own teaching challenges. This meant that every session included time for reflection on how a given method would fit into a different national context.
Included in the training was also a visit to a local Finnish school. The group visited Puistokatu school, where teacher Risto Suutarinen took them around the school premises, explained how the school works, and answered questions from the participants. The principal of the school, Markus Suni, also came to greet the teachers.

Outside of the scheduled lessons, the visit was enriched by a cultural program. The group enjoyed an educational city tour of Jyväskylä, a peaceful nature trail, and marshmallow grilling by the lake.
