Guest Lecture in Berlin: The Finnish system of early childhood education and care

Dr. Kristof Fenyvesi, a STEAM Director from Experience Workshop, recently visited Berlin to share his insights on the Finnish system of early childhood education and care. His lecture was hosted by FiPP e.V. and the Gesellschaft für Europabildung.

Dr. Fenyvesi discussed the key principles of Finnish pedagogy, emphasizing the importance of active and action-oriented decision-making. He explained how Finnish educators empower children to make choices and take responsibility for their learning. He also highlighted the role of play in early childhood education, explaining how play can foster enjoyment, satisfaction, and creativity. He also spoke about the importance of promoting justice, equality, and inclusion in early childhood education. He explained how Finnish educators create welcoming and supportive learning environments for all children, regardless of their background or abilities.

Dr. Fenyvesi presented the book ‘Playful Learning In Early Childhood Education in Finland’, a guide for educators and parents of young children. This book is full of activities that are designed to help children learn through play. The book is also a great resource for teacher training and can be used in home education.

Finally, Dr. Fenyvesi discussed the importance of informal, intuitive, and self-sufficient education. He explained how Finnish educators encourage children to learn at their own pace and in their own way.
