Svenska dagen firas årligen i Finland den 6 november till minnet av konung Gustav II Adolf, som ljöt hjältedöden i slaget i Lützen denna dag år 1632. För att uppmärksamma dagens ursprungliga mening uppfördes den 6 november 2018 en smått ironisk version av slaget i Lützen i två klassrum av sjätteklassister i Keljonkangas-skolan i Jyväskylä.
Två svenska officerare, spelade av Osmo Pekonen och Johan Stén, förment förirrade i Lützens dimma med sina arméer, hade tappat bort sig så totalt i både rum och tid – förmodligen genom en tidsförvrängning – att de landade i fel miljö, i en modern skola!
De två krigarna diskuterade animerat de senaste händelserna i det trettioåriga kriget (vars utbrytandes 400-årsminne uppmärksammas i år) och läste utdrag ur Zachris Topelius (vars 200 års jubileum firades i år) Fältskärns berättelser. De två besökarna från det förflutna, utklädda i tidsenliga uniformer, sjöng också Finska rytteriets marsch på svenska i text av Topelius, uppmuntrade både lärare och elever till samtal på svenska, och utförde slutligen matematiska kalkyler i anslutning till ett ballistiskt problem! Efter ett intensivt 45 minuters uppträdande i varje klassrum försvann de mystiska besökarna från Finlands och Sveriges gemensamma historia tillbaka in i dimman.

Svenska dagen, the Swedish Day, is annually celebrated on the 6th of November both in Finland and in Sweden to commemorate the death of King Gustavus Adolphus in the battle of Lützen, on the 6th of November 1632, “in the mists of Lützen”, as the saying goes. To bring home the original meaning of the day, a cheek-in-tongue version of the battle was staged in the classrooms of two classes of sixth-graders in the Keljonkangas school in Jyväskylä.
Two Swedish officers, played by Osmo Pekonen and Johan Stén, supposedly lost in the fog of Lützen together with their armies, were so badly lost in the mists of both space and time that they landed – through a time warp, presumably – into the wrong environment, a modern school!
The two warriors discussed recent events of the Thirty Years’ War (whose 400th anniversary is commemorated this year) and read excerpts of Zachris Topelius (whose bicentenary is celebrated this year). Properly dressed in ancient-looking uniforms, the two visitors from the past also sang in Swedish the March of the Finnish Cavalry (lyrics by Topelius), engaged the teachers and the school children in a lively exchange in Swedish, and even performed on the blackboard some mathematical calculations related to ballistics! After a vigorous performance of 45 minutes in each classroom, the mysterious visitors from the common history of Finland and Sweden evaporated again in the mist.
