Mentoring and talent development from the leadership perspective
Late September 2023, Experience Workshop offered a unique comprehensive school leadership program. Education leaders had the opportunity to learn how school leadership, mentoring and talent development is realised in the Finnish education practice.
STEAM Collaboration
Part of the program took place at the Jyväskylä Art Museum. Participants from the Berlin Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family learned with teachers from Japan together, how talent management can be approached through the STEAM methodology and how the Finnish education system can be integrated with formal and informal learning opportunities.

The Art Museum of Jyväskylä, in cooperation with Experience Workshop, presented the participants a comprehensive STEAM exhibition and programme involving the vast majority of schools in Jyväskylä, which is hosted by the museum. The hands-on workshop has shown why STEAM is a great learning method.
Finnish School from the bird’s perspective
The Berlin guests, as education leaders, also had the opportunity to consult with city education leaders Eino Leisimo and Sami Lahti, and learn first-hand about the local specificities of the Finnish education system in Jyväskylä.
In the Schildt Secondary School, they took a closer look at how the high school tackles the issue of inclusion and talent development. They were informed of the details by Mika Rantala, principal of Schildt. This day provided a great opportunity for mutual experience exchange.
Basics of education
Participants could study education at even earlier stages. Kindergartens are considered the foundations of the Finnish education system, so there was no question of examining specialisation practices at this education level, too.
Participants had the opportunity to meet special needs teachers and inclusion experts and learn from them how they provide the basics for all children, whether they are outstanding or otherwise at a different learning pace from their peers.
Reflexions inside and outside
The summary of experiences and final reflexions took place in Crazy Town, faciliteded by Kristof Fenyvesi, STEAM-director of Experience Workshop.
Participants had freetime activities in the afternoons which made possible to explore the Finnish landscape and architecture. Overall, they got a broad view of the general educational practices in Finland, had exceptional networking opportunities and reported to have spent unforgettable days in Jyväskylä.
