Learning STEAM through Erasmus+ in Finland

Experience Workshop offers excellent opportunities to meet learning objectives of the Lithuanian core curriculum

How to integrate STEAM education through the innovative organization of the educational process? How to use modern educational resources? Experience Workshop’s teacher training courses and mobility opportunities have been proven to be appropriate and useful in overcoming the challenges faced by Lithuanian teachers.

The importance of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) education is emphasized in Lithuania since 2014. National educational documents state that the learning environment at school should enable students to actively learn through practical and experimental activities using modern educational technologies.

STEAM learning in the museum

We welcomed our first Lithuanian participants in October 2023. Five Lithuanian educators joined a STEAM course, where they had the special opportunity to participate in a STEAM-themed museum visit and a closely related workshop.

In connection with the exhibition at the Art Museum Jyväskylä, participants explored the synergies between STEAM methodology and sustainability and how they are reflected in different educational contexts such as in South Africa or Europe, including Finland, Hungary, Germany and Lithuania.

Student mobility with Hungarian peers

For the second time, we had the opportunity to host Lithuanian guests in May 2024. This time, four students from Taurage Versme Gymnasium, together with their accompanying teacher in close cooperation with students from Hungarian Deák Ferenc Gymnasium Kispest, were able to explore the mysteries of the Finnish education system

…and the Finnish nature, with special focus on sustainability in both cases.

In addition, we had individual job shadowing visitors during the year. They had the opportunity to observe how interdisciplinarity and STEM/STEAM education is implemented in Finland in a school that Experience Workshop, as a supporting organisation, helped them find.
