What are the basics and challenges of a successful game design concept? What should we consider when designing a strategy game, a competitive game or a cooperative game? To what extent can different functions be combined, and how does this relate to design?
All these questions were the subject of the Integrated Product Design Course realised at BME (Budapest University of Technology and Economics), where Dr. Kristóf Fenyvesi, STEAM director of Experience Workshop and János Saxon Szász, creator of the PolyUniverse Games, participated as invited experts. They presented STEAM-based creativity games and community building strategies, and supported BME students in the development of tool-based strategy-building activities. The course was built up in close cooperatiom with CUP 4 CREATIVITY.
The students researched topics of creativity, community building, marketing, game design and mechanics and STEAM education. These findings helped them to examine the given games and develop further versions, considering the CUP project’s needs and target groups. The research phase was the first phase of 3-4 weeks, then the ideation began. At the end of the 7th week the students showcased their (re-)design ideas and concepts.
