Abstracts (Download in docx-format)

The integrated approach of Science-, Technology-, Engineering-, Arts- and Mathematics learning–known as STEAM–is becoming increasingly important worldwide. The development of collaborative and inter-, multi-, and transdisciplinary problem-solving capabilities, which enable today’s people to discover unexpected connections between different aspects of various complex phenomena, is not only an effective tool, but one of the most important goals of today’s learning societies. Innovative work environments, such as start-ups require flexible and open-minded people, who are capable of reaching beyond disciplinary boundaries and eager to integrate new solutions, methods and technologies. To support individual creativity and co-creation, organizations have to offer infrastructures and environment, which are available for the establishment of creative ecosystems and culture.

At our conference, we would like to discuss opportunities to complement the STEM learning with creative, aesthetic and artistic aspects as well as consider novel approaches to STEAM Education. How STEAM-based approaches could lead to phenomenon-based learning? How schools could become open, multi- and transdisciplinary, experience-oriented and collaborative educational environments, which are capable to offer novel opportunities for 21st Century education? At the conference we also aim to discuss the role and opportunities of new technologies can offer for such experimental and discovery learning environments and how we could explore connections between hands-on and digital learning activities.

The STEAM conference is based on an Erasmus+ project to collaborate with colleagues from Israel and South Africa, so that we will hear prominent scientist introducing STEAM learning opportunities from African and Jewish Arts perspectives. Nevertheless, the main aim of the conference is to provide a forum for anyone in Hungary and neighbouring countries to introduce their activities and engage in discussion for progressing STEAM education ideas and practices.  We welcome anyone who believes can contribute to our discussion or just want to learn about the topic.
