Beyond the Limits of Space and Time: Always Poly-Universe

In August 2023, we had our last transnational meeting related to our Erasmus+ PUNTE project. The meeting was hosted by our project coordinator, Eszterházy Károly Catholic University of Eger, but on the final day we visited also the artist couple János Szaxon-Szász and Zsuzsa Dárdai (PoliUniverzum Kft.) in Szokolya, Hungary.

To sum up the work of the last three years, all project partners presented how they contributed, and the remaining technical tasks of project closure were also discussed. The planning of future joint projects started in the meeting room, continued in the Kepes Museum and ended in the evening – where else in Eger but in a wine cellar, around the dinner table. At the György Kepes exhibition, we experienced how the combination of mathematics and art can be a limitless source of inspiration for an artist.

On the next day of the meeting, we were guests of Szokolya, a village of 2000 people in the picturesque Börzsőny Mountains of Hungary. We were welcomed by the mayor, Mrs. Csilla Némethné Pintér, who expressed her delight in the memorial room of the great painter-ancestors of Szokolya, Ádám Mányoki and János Viski, that Szokolya community can now count among its members János Saxon-Szász, the creator of the Poly-Universe, as honorary citizen.

After the official part of the programme, we had the opportunity to visit the atelier of János Szaxon-Szász and Zsuzsa Dárdai, who, in addition to giving us the most expert guided tour possible, also provided an extraordinary gesture to create a lasting bond between the partners. They have given us as a gift the original pieces of Poly-Universe paintings that can decorate everyone’s walls individually, but which can be reassembled at any time, thus redefining the unity of the project team community in a new project universe and beyond.

We said goodbye with thanks and gratitude. The event was a festive and symbolic end to the project.
